Dr. Richard Walker
I am an Orthopaedic Surgeon practising in south west Sydney. I have been in practice since 2005 and have public and private appointments in the area.
I am a member of the Australian Orthopaedic Association.
I graduated from the University of Sydney in 1995 and started my orthopaedic career at Royal North Shore Hospital as a junior registrar in 1998.
After successfully completing advanced training in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2003 and being awarded a Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery from The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, I travelled to Toronto Canada. Here I completed twelve months of further training in hip and knee replacement surgery and trauma at the University of Toronto, St Michael’s Hospital. Research completed during that time was awarded Best Basic Science Poster at the Orthopaedic Trauma Association in Arizona, USA in 2006.
On returning to Sydney in 2005, I joined Sydney Bone and Joint Clinic and started working at Liverpool hospital and later Fairfield hospital as well as Sydney South West Private Hospital. I continue to have a special interest in hip and knee replacement surgery as well as complex trauma. My practice covers a range of operations from primary joint replacement surgery and minor trauma, to arthroscopic surgery of the knee and to revision joint replacement surgery and complex trauma reconstruction including use of computer aided limb reconstruction using the Taylor Spatial Frame.
I have been on the faculty of local and international Orthopaedic trauma meetings since 2006.
I am the current Director of the Whitlam Joint Replacement Centre at Fairfield Hospital and the current Head of Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Liverpool and Fairfield Hospital.
I have a keen interest in evidence based medicine and patient based outcome measures. My primary goal is to provide high quality care based on this evidence.
